  • An open letter to my bowels.

    Dear Bowels,

I don't generally make it a habit to write letters to my body parts, but you, my friend, are very special.  You're important to me.  You were pretty lazy in the past, up until the last few years, you would only work about once a week or every two weeks.  However, lately, you've been pretty good to me... And I've been pretty good to you, with all that brown rice I've been eating as of late.

So, I wanted to ask you: what changed?

After a day of excruciating pain and nausea, followed by bouts of explosive diarrhea I finally figured out
that the cause of my pain, nausea, etc. in the beginning of the week
was probably caused by fecal impaction.  Again.  This is the second time in less than a year.  WTF, bowels, do your job... It's not THAT difficult.  Billions of other people's bowels do it just fine every day. That's not an exaggeration, either.

The doctor's advice last time (after she decided to stick her fingers up my anus, which wasn't pleasant for either of us, was it?) was to just take laxatives for a while until you get used to pooping again, that's what I've been doing.

Yet, still (STILL) you plague me.

Now I have back pain, and the need to go at least twice a day... Which is good, I guess.  But PLEASE stop letting go, every time I go pee, making it so that there's only enough to make it a full wiping session, but never enough to even reach the bowl. Ugh. What a waste of toilet paper.

Anyways, we're in this for the long haul, and I know that.  I just want to ask you to be a bit kinder to me, and in return I'll eat as many vegetables and brown rice as you want.  I mean it this time.

    Very truly yours,
    Kim.

Side note: I read online about causes of fecal impaction and one of them was taking laxatives.  Which worries me, because the doctor prescribed laxatives to cure the impaction.  WTF?

What body part do you have the most problems with?

  • My eyes... after reading this entry! haha

I don't know if I am more mortified or impressed with the openness.

I'm surprised your doc didn't suggest a stool softener... or to drink more apple juice.

Upon further research (aka google --> fecal impaction --> http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000230.htm ) "The mass may have to be manually broken up. A
health care provider will need to insert one or two fingers into the
rectum and slowly break up the mass into smaller pieces so that it can
    be expelled"

Good god, that doesn't sound appealing.. I hope your bowels decide to listen. I'd hate to see you have to punish them.

Good luck, I hope this is the last time.

  • i hate feet.

  • Wow, that sounds pretty terrible. I hope it gets resolved soon! I have some issues with my organs in the same general area. Unfortunately I think its a combination of things which aren't easily treatable when they occur in combination. *sigh*

  • omg laxatives = bad!

if anything take some milk of magnesia if you reallllly need to since it's more "natural" and your body will be less dependent on it.i have too many problems to name. stomach. intestines. pain here and there. haha i'm a walking ouch!

  • Happy Birthday Kimothy.

  • aw :( I'm sorry!
Reading this entry made me want to write a thank you note to my own bowels.

  • IANAD (yet) but irritable bowel syndrome is actually quite common.  up to 15%?.. 25%? of people suffer from it at some point or another.  If you were taking any antibioitics or serious painkillers for your recent illness that could have been an issue too.

If you have a recent onset of back pain related to your bowel problems, you might want to see a GI specialist to check that out.  I assume your doc tested your stool (her fingers) for blood to rule out anything serious.

  • Nevertheless needless to say your own terms are realistic
